Political commentator Van Jones did not hide his disappointment with Joe Biden’s debate performance against Donald Trump, calling it “painful.” Jones, a former Obama administration advisor, criticized Biden despite having worked with the president previously.

During his post-debate analysis, Jones said Biden lost the debate within the first three minutes. He felt Biden seemed weak and raspy, failing to restore confidence in himself or the Democratic party. While expressing affection for Biden, Jones made clear the performance did not meet the challenge.

Jones labeled the debate as “the old man vs. the con man.” However, he argued Biden needed to prove he could still lead the country for another term. With the primary season beginning, Jones urged Democrats to “consider a different course” in choosing their 2024 candidate.

His blunt criticism underscores fears within the party about Biden’s ability to withstand attacks from Trump at 78 years old. Jones stressed the pain felt by many Democrats watching Biden struggle under pressure. His remarks put pressure on Biden to prove he remains the best option to defeat Trump once more.
