Del Mar Shark Attack: Swimmer Injured During Morning Swim

A 46-year-old swim­mer was injured in a shark attack Sun­day morn­ing while swim­ming off Del Mar beach, California. 

The attack occurred around 9 a.m. about 100 yards off­shore near the 17th Street Beach Safe­ty Cen­ter. The man, who was part of a reg­u­lar swim­ming group, sus­tained bites to his tor­so, arm, and hand but is in sta­ble con­di­tion at Scripps Memo­r­i­al Hos­pi­tal La Jolla.

Life­guards respond­ed quick­ly and pro­vid­ed med­ical care before trans­port­ing the vic­tim to the hos­pi­tal. Del Mar life­guards have closed the beach to swim­ming and surf­ing until Tues­day morn­ing as a precaution.

This inci­dent fol­lows a sim­i­lar shark attack in Novem­ber 2022, where a woman sur­vived an attack in the same area. The event high­lights the impor­tance of stay­ing vig­i­lant and exer­cis­ing cau­tion while swim­ming in the ocean.
