A 46-year-old swimmer was injured in a shark attack Sunday morning while swimming off Del Mar beach, California.
The attack occurred around 9 a.m. about 100 yards offshore near the 17th Street Beach Safety Center. The man, who was part of a regular swimming group, sustained bites to his torso, arm, and hand but is in stable condition at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
Lifeguards responded quickly and provided medical care before transporting the victim to the hospital. Del Mar lifeguards have closed the beach to swimming and surfing until Tuesday morning as a precaution.
This incident follows a similar shark attack in November 2022, where a woman survived an attack in the same area. The event highlights the importance of staying vigilant and exercising caution while swimming in the ocean.
