Louisiana Republicans are on a mission to “reform” the state’s business environment — at the expense of child workers! 😮 State Rep. Roger Wilder, who owns smoothie franchises, is championing a proposal to scrap lunch break requirements for child workers, claiming they’re “young adults.” 🤔 But let’s be real, they’re minors!
This isn’t an isolated case. GOP policymakers in 16 states have introduced bills to weaken child labor laws, targeting age verification, alcohol service, and employer liability! 🔥 One group pushing this agenda is the Foundation for Government Accountability, which wants to expand teenage labor and cut social safety nets. 🤔
Why is this happening? 🤷️ Critics argue these reforms promote a “parental rights” agenda, expand the workforce, and reduce regulations. But opponents say it’s an attack on hard-fought protections for our youth. 😠
So far, the bill has passed a Louisiana committee, but it’s not law yet. 🙌 There’s still time to fight back and protect child workers! 💪
