Deadly Multi-Vehicle Collision on Interstate 26
A five-vehicle crash on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, claimed the lives of two drivers on Saturday. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. near the 156-mile marker.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
Master Trooper Gary Miller detailed the chain of events:
- A Honda CRV traveling eastbound veered off the right side of I‑26.
- The driver overcorrected, losing control and crossing the median into westbound lanes.
- The Honda collided head-on with a westbound Chrysler van.
- Debris from the initial crash struck three other westbound vehicles: a GMC Denali SUV, an Acura sedan, and a GMC pickup truck towing a trailer.
Fatalities and Ongoing Investigation
The drivers of both the Honda CRV and the Chrysler van were pronounced dead at the scene. The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identities of the victims. No other injuries were reported among the occupants of the other involved vehicles.
