Fatal Five-Vehicle Collision on I‑26 Claims Two Lives in South Carolina

Deadly Multi-Vehicle Collision on Interstate 26

A five-vehi­cle crash on Inter­state 26 in Orange­burg Coun­ty, South Car­oli­na, claimed the lives of two dri­vers on Sat­ur­day. The South Car­oli­na High­way Patrol report­ed that the inci­dent occurred around 11:20 a.m. near the 156-mile marker.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy

Mas­ter Troop­er Gary Miller detailed the chain of events:

1. A Hon­da CRV trav­el­ing east­bound veered off the right side of I‑26.
2. The dri­ver over­cor­rect­ed, los­ing con­trol and cross­ing the medi­an into west­bound lanes.
3. The Hon­da col­lid­ed head-on with a west­bound Chrysler van.
4. Debris from the ini­tial crash struck three oth­er west­bound vehi­cles: a GMC Denali SUV, an Acu­ra sedan, and a GMC pick­up truck tow­ing a trailer.

Fatalities and Ongoing Investigation

The dri­vers of both the Hon­da CRV and the Chrysler van were pro­nounced dead at the scene. The Orange­burg Coun­ty Coro­ner’s Office has not yet released the iden­ti­ties of the vic­tims. No oth­er injuries were report­ed among the occu­pants of the oth­er involved vehicles.
