Charges Revealed Against Florida Candidate
The JusÂtice DepartÂment has revealed an indictÂment chargÂing a FloriÂda man with threatÂenÂing to kill his politÂiÂcal oppoÂnent in the 2022 election.
William Robert BradÂdock III, 41, of St. PetersÂburg, FloriÂda, was charged with threatÂenÂing two peoÂple, one of whom the DOJ said was his priÂmaÂry oppoÂnent in the race for FloriÂdaâs 13th ConÂgresÂsionÂal District.
Alleged Threat to âDisappearâ Opponent
AccordÂing to the indictÂment, BradÂdock allegedÂly threatÂened to âcall up my RussÂian-UkrainÂian hit squadâ and make the priÂmaÂry oppoÂnent âdisÂapÂpear.â The DOJ did not name the alleged vicÂtims, but one of BradÂdockÂâs priÂmaÂry oppoÂnents, Rep. Anna PauliÂna Luna, RâFla., had preÂviÂousÂly sought a restrainÂing order against him.
Restraining Order and Campaign Termination
In 2021, a FloriÂda court grantÂed Luna and a conÂserÂvÂaÂtive activist friend of hers, Erin OlszewsÂki, a temÂpoÂrary restrainÂing order against BradÂdock, who they claimed was stalkÂing Luna and wantÂed her dead. BradÂdock terÂmiÂnatÂed his camÂpaign shortÂly after the judge grantÂed the injunction.
Fleeing the Country and Deportation
After allegedÂly makÂing the threats, BradÂdock fled the counÂtry and was latÂer found to be residÂing in the PhilipÂpines. He was then deportÂed to the U.S. and made his first court appearÂance in Los AngeÂles on Thursday.
Potential Prison Sentence
BradÂdock is charged with one count of interÂstate transÂmisÂsion of a true threat to injure anothÂer perÂson, for which he could face a maxÂiÂmum of five years in prison if convicted.
The case is part of the JusÂtice DepartÂmenÂtâs ElecÂtion Threats Task Force, which was conÂvened in 2021 to address threats tarÂgetÂing elecÂtion workers.
