Former Baker County Detention Deputy Sentenced to 25 Years for Sexual Battery of Inmate

In a dis­turb­ing inci­dent, Bri­an Louis Robin­son, a for­mer Bak­er Coun­ty deten­tion deputy, has been sen­tenced to 25 years in the Flori­da Depart­ment of Cor­rec­tions for sex­u­al­ly bat­ter­ing an inmate.

The Allegation and Investigation

In April 2019, the Immi¬≠gra¬≠tion and Cus¬≠toms Enforce¬≠ment Agency received an alle¬≠ga¬≠tion of sex¬≠u¬≠al bat¬≠tery against a Bak¬≠er Coun¬≠ty deten¬≠tion deputy. The Bak¬≠er Coun¬≠ty Sher¬≠if¬≠f‚Äôs Office launched an inves¬≠ti¬≠ga¬≠tion, iden¬≠ti¬≠fy¬≠ing Bri¬≠an Louis Robin¬≠son as the sus¬≠pect. The inves¬≠ti¬≠ga¬≠tion revealed that Robin¬≠son had sex¬≠u¬≠al¬≠ly assault¬≠ed the vic¬≠tim mul¬≠ti¬≠ple times.

Arrest and Trial

Robin­son was arrest­ed by the Bak­er Coun­ty Sher­if­f’s Office on July 10, 2020, for the crime of sex­u­al bat­tery. The case went to tri­al, and after a week-long tri­al, the jury delib­er­at­ed for just over two hours before find­ing Robin­son guilty of the charges.

Sentencing and Victim Impact

On May 1, the sen­tenc­ing hear­ing took place, presided over by Judge Phillip A. Pena. The vic­tim appeared via Zoom to pro­vide a vic­tim impact state­ment to the court. The pros­e­cu­tion request­ed the max­i­mum sen­tence of 90 years in the Depart­ment of Cor­rec­tions. How­ev­er, Judge Pena sen­tenced Robin­son to 25 years in the Flori­da DOC, fol­lowed by 5 years of sex offend­er pro­ba­tion. Addi­tion­al­ly, Robin­son was des­ig­nat­ed as a sex­u­al predator.
