Four peo­ple were killed and 10 oth­ers seri­ous­ly injured when a dri­ver crashed a van into a Long Island nail salon on Fri­day, accord­ing to police and law enforce­ment sources. The mini­van smashed through the store­front of Hawaii Nail & Spa in Deer Park, trap­ping cus­tomers and employ­ees inside.

Four indi­vid­u­als were pro­nounced dead at the scene, all believed to be inside the salon at the time. Ten oth­ers were trans­port­ed to area hos­pi­tals with seri­ous injuries, includ­ing one per­son who was air­lift­ed. The dri­ver of the van is believed to be one of the survivors.

The entire glass store¬≠front was shat¬≠tered and the ceil¬≠ing was ripped down in the crash. More than 150 fire¬≠fight¬≠ers and EMS work¬≠ers respond¬≠ed to the ‚Äúmass casu¬≠al¬≠ty event,‚ÄĚ with the Deer Park Fire Depart¬≠ment call¬≠ing it a trag¬≠ic inci¬≠dent for the community.

The cause of the crash is still under inves­ti­ga­tion, though records show the van had no pri­or traf­fic vio­la­tions. This devel­op­ing sto­ry high­lights the need for increased safe­ty mea­sures and aware­ness to pre­vent such dev­as­tat­ing acci­dents in the future.
