An Italian man named Stefano Voci has been identified as the individual caught on camera nibbling a child’s ear during the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield.

The bizarre incident, which went viral on social media, sparked widespread outrage and a police investigation.

Voci, a 43-year-old forklift truck operator from Desio near Milan, has since defended his actions, stating that he was simply expressing affection towards a relative.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Voci wrote: “There are many clarifications to make but everything is in process. I was just someone sharing love and affection like anyone else, that was exposed maliciously.”

The footage showed Voci grinning and nuzzling the boy’s ear as snooker legend Stephen Hendry was being interviewed. The child appeared unfazed by the incident, even waving to the camera at one point.

South Yorkshire police investigated the matter but ultimately determined that no crime had been committed, and the case was closed without further action.

Voci has since deleted all of his social media accounts, as have various members of his family. However, MailOnline was able to uncover his previous statements defending his actions, in which he claimed the photos circulating online were “fake” and that he simply wanted his family to be “left alone.”

The bizarre incident sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many viewers expressing shock and concern for the child’s wellbeing. However, the police investigation concluded that no further action was necessary, and Voci has remained defiant in the face of the backlash.
