In a shocking act of violence, Orlando police arrested 15-year-old Nico Brown for a drive-by shooting rampage leaving two people dead.
The reckless carnage struck on Tuesday evening, with rapid gunfire piercing a home and cutting short the life of an innocent 6‑year-old girl.
Ajahliyah Hashim was tragically killed just two days after bullets tore through her family’s house, despite the efforts of doctors fighting to save her life. Tragically, neither she nor her mother were the intended targets of the hail of bullets. The young student had her whole life ahead of her before it was cut short in her own neighborhood.
Isaiyah Wright, only 19, also lost his life to the violence after being dropped off at a local hospital. It remains unclear what connection, if any, he had to the shooting. His devastated mother is left grieving the senseless loss of her son.
Yet Brown showed no remorse, flashing a jarring smile during his perp walk in handcuffs just days after the bloodshed. Now rightfully facing murder charges, the deadly actions that took two innocent lives at such a young age are a disturbing sign of increasing danger plaguing local communities.
As leaders mourn the preventable tragedy of a little girl’s death, the grassroots call grows louder for an end to the epidemic of gun violence threatening children across the city. Justice must be served so no other family faces the unimaginable pain of losing a child to reckless violence.
