A Kentucky town is shaken after a mass shooting at a birthday party. Melissa Parrett, 44, heroically shielded her 19-year-old daughter Chloe from gunfire on Saturday in Florence. The party was held to celebrate Melissa’s son’s 21st birthday.

Uninvited guest Chase Garvey, 21, opened fire on the partygoers. Melissa’s brave act saved Chloe, but tragically, Melissa succumbed to her injuries. Two other party attendees were also injured but are expected to recover.

The shooting also claimed the lives of 19-year-old Delaney Eary (believed to be Garvey’s ex-girlfriend), Shane Miller (20), and Hayden Rybicki (20). Garvey fled the scene but died by suicide shortly after.

Motive for the attack remains unknown, but Garvey had a disturbing past, including a rape charge from 2021. Police Chief Jeff Mallery expressed his condolences and called the scene a horrific tragedy.
