Hunter Biden, the son of PresÂiÂdent Joe Biden, was conÂvictÂed by a fedÂerÂal jury of lying about his drug use when purÂchasÂing a firearm.
He was found guilty of makÂing a false stateÂment in the purÂchase of a firearm, makÂing a false stateÂment relatÂed to inforÂmaÂtion required to be kept by a fedÂerÂalÂly licensed firearms dealÂer, and posÂsesÂsion of a firearm by an unlawÂful user of or addict to a conÂtrolled substance.
The verÂdict came after a triÂal in which prosÂeÂcuÂtors used witÂness tesÂtiÂmoÂny, Hunterâs own comÂmuÂniÂcaÂtions, and excerpts from his memÂoir to prove that he was using crack cocaine around the time he bought a .38-calÂiber revolver in OctoÂber 2018.
The jury delibÂerÂatÂed for three hours across two days before reachÂing the guilty verdict.
Hunter Biden now faces up to 25 years in prison, though a lighter senÂtence is more likeÂly since he has no priÂor conÂvicÂtions. This is not the end of his legal trouÂbles, as he is also schedÂuled to face a sepÂaÂrate case in Los AngeÂles fedÂerÂal court in SepÂtemÂber for allegedÂly evadÂing $1.4 milÂlion in fedÂerÂal income tax.
