An Israeli woman tragically lost her life while on vacation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Alma Bohadana, 22, died on Monday after jumping over a wall and suffering a 49-foot fall into a forested area.

Bohadana and another foreign tourist, identified as Dan Hen, were walking on a street in the Rio neighborhood of Santa Teresa when they were frightened by the sound of a motorcycle. Thinking they were about to be robbed, the pair began running, and Bohadana leapt over a wall, plunging into the forest below.

Paramedics were unable to revive Bohadana, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Hen, who had been with Bohadana, was interviewed by police multiple times, providing varying accounts of what led to the tragic incident.

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Bohadana’s death, including whether a motorcycle was present and if any weapons were involved. Surveillance footage from the area is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

Bohadana had been vacationing alone in Brazil for over three months, spending the first 90 days in the northeastern city of Salvador before traveling to Rio de Janeiro 10 days ago. Hostel workers in Salvador remembered Bohadana fondly, describing her as a “loving person” who “just smiled, sang and talked a lot.”
