A Kentucky pastor has been arrested on child sex charges for engaging in an illicit relationship with a 15-year-old minor that he claims was ‘consensual.’

Zachary King, the 47-year-old former pastor at LexCity Church in Lexington, was charged with rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse after confessing to the crimes.

According to the arrest citation, King told a Lexington Police Department detective that the relationship with the teen began in January 2023 and lasted until April 2024.

He admitted to having “sexual intercourse in the minor’s home, at his residence, and at the church where he was a former pastor.”

King communicated with the teenager through Snapchat and WhatsApp, and would “receive sexually explicit images” from her on the social platforms. After members of the church confronted him about the allegations, he resigned from his position.

The case is the latest in a string of high-profile scandals involving clergy members accused of sexual abuse. Last week, megachurch Pastor Robert Morris, 62, was accused of sexually abusing a former family friend when she was just 12 years old in the 1980s.
