The search for two young sisters, Jalie (6) and Erin (4) Brunett, has taken a tragic turn after their mother, Callie Brunett (35), was found murdered in their Loranger, Louisiana home on Thursday morning.

Callie Brunett had been missing for 24 hours before her father discovered her body in the bedroom of their mobile home. Police believe her daughters were abducted shortly before 8:00 am.

Just hours later, authorities tragically discovered Erin’s body in a nearby wooded area. Thankfully, her sister Jalie was found alive nearby. A suspect, Daniel Callihan, was apprehended in Jackson, Mississippi, driving the vehicle Jalie was found in. Jalie received treatment for minor injuries at a local hospital.

“This is a horrific and tragic situation,” stated Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, expressing his deep sadness. “This is an innocent 4‑year-old child. No one, especially a law enforcement officer or parent, should ever witness such a tragedy.”

The scene at Callie Brunett’s home was described as an “obvious homicide” by Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Jimmy Travis. He added that “blood was everywhere.” A haunting detail emerged when Callie’s mother, Debbie Smith Brunett, shared that her last comment on Callie’s Facebook page was a desperate plea: “CALL ME!!” posted on Wednesday evening.

While the cause of Callie Brunett’s murder remains undisclosed, authorities are treating it as a homicide. Detectives were searching for a white male in connection with a reported domestic violence incident before the discovery of Callie’s body.
