A 36-year-old married female teacher in New Jersey has been charged with sexual assault over claims she had sexual relations with a student.

Julie Rizzitello, who previously worked as an English teacher at Wall Township High School, is accused of engaging in “various sexual acts” with the student on “multiple occasions and in at least three jurisdictions — Belmar, Brick, and Wall” over the course of a year.

Rizzitello, who tied the knot with her husband in 2017, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, three counts of criminal sexual contact and one count of witness tampering.

She has since resigned from her position at the school.

The allegations against Rizzitello come just days after the arrest of another New Jersey instructor, Allison Havemann-Niedrach, a 43-year-old special education teacher accused of sexually assaulting one of her students.

These cases highlight the troubling issue of teachers exploiting their positions of power and abusing students.

The charges against Rizzitello and Havemann-Niedrach are a stark reminder of the need for robust safeguards and accountability measures in educational institutions to protect vulnerable students.

The investigations into these incidents are ongoing, and the defendants will face the consequences of their alleged actions in the court system.

It is crucial that such cases are thoroughly examined and that justice is served to prevent similar abuses from occurring in the future.
