Botswana Unveils Record-Breaking Diamond

Botswana’s President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, showcased a colossal 2,492-carat diamond to the world, making it the second-largest ever discovered in a mine.

A Historic Discovery

The diamond, which has yet to be named, was recovered using advanced X‑ray technology. Its remarkable size and quality have positioned it as one of the most significant diamond discoveries in over a century.

A Gem of Extraordinary Value

Lucara Diamond Corporation, the mining company responsible for the discovery, expressed immense pride in this achievement. The diamond’s potential value is astronomical, surpassing previous records set by other notable finds.

The World’s Largest Diamonds

The newly discovered diamond surpasses the Sewelo diamond, previously the second-largest mined diamond at 1,758 carats. Other significant diamonds from Botswana’s Karowe Mine include the Lesedi La Rona and The Constellation.

The Formation of Diamonds

Diamonds are formed deep beneath the Earth’s surface under immense pressure and temperature. This natural process results in the creation of these precious gemstones, which have captivated humanity for centuries.

Botswana’s Diamond Legacy

Botswana has solidified its reputation as a leading diamond producer, consistently discovering some of the world’s largest and most valuable stones. This latest find further cements the country’s position as a global gem mining powerhouse.
