Donald Williams, a witness to George Floyd’s murder who testified against former Officer Derek Chauvin, has been awarded a $150,000 settlement by the Minneapolis City Council.

Williams, a mixed martial arts fighter, filed a lawsuit against the city last spring, claiming he suffered post-traumatic stress disorder due to police treatment during the incident.

Video footage played at Chauvin’s trial showed Williams pleading with the officer to remove his knee from Floyd’s neck.

He also alleged that Chauvin brandished a chemical spray canister at him and other bystanders, while former Officer Tou Thao placed a hand on his chest.

The settlement acknowledges the emotional distress Williams experienced as a result of his involvement in the tragic event.

Although the financial compensation cannot erase the trauma he endured, it serves as a reminder of the lasting impact that instances of police brutality can have on the lives of witnesses and the broader community.
