Three surfers ‚Äď two Aus¬≠tralians, Jake (30) and Cal¬≠lum Robin¬≠son (33), and Amer¬≠i¬≠can Jack Carter Rhoad (30) from San Diego ‚Äď van¬≠ished on a Baja Cal¬≠i¬≠for¬≠nia surf¬≠ing trip.

Last seen on April 27th, 2024, at San Miguel Beach near Tijuana, they were traveling in a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup. Their disappearance sparked a search involving Mexican authorities, the FBI, and the U.S. and Australian consulates.

Discovery of Bodies and Signs of Foul Play

The search took a grim turn when author¬≠i¬≠ties locat¬≠ed the aban¬≠doned white pick¬≠up truck. Sad¬≠ly, the bod¬≠ies of all three surfers were found near San¬≠to Tomas, rough¬≠ly 70 miles south of their last known loca¬≠tion. Evi¬≠dence at the scene sug¬≠gest¬≠ed foul play, includ¬≠ing burnt remains of the truck and aban¬≠doned tents.

Investigation and International Cooperation

Mex¬≠i¬≠can author¬≠i¬≠ties detained three indi¬≠vid¬≠u¬≠als and recov¬≠ered a phone belong¬≠ing to one of the surfers along with drugs. The com¬≠plex¬≠i¬≠ty of the case drew in the FBI and con¬≠sular offi¬≠cials from the U.S. and Aus¬≠tralia. This inter¬≠na¬≠tion¬≠al col¬≠lab¬≠o¬≠ra¬≠tion aims to estab¬≠lish a time¬≠line of events and deter¬≠mine the cause of death.

Global Impact and Travel Concerns

The trag¬≠ic inci¬≠dent has trig¬≠gered a wave of con¬≠cern. The U.S. State Depart¬≠ment issued trav¬≠el advi¬≠sories for Baja Cal¬≠i¬≠for¬≠nia due to ongo¬≠ing crime and kid¬≠nap¬≠ping concerns.

The Australian Prime Minister expressed his condolences and highlighted the need for a thorough investigation. This event casts a shadow on Baja California’s reputation for tourism, raising questions about tourist safety in the region.
