A disturbing incident in Florida has left a community in shock after a 19-year-old man allegedly killed his own parents and exchanged gunfire with law enforcement, with the dramatic encounter captured on a deputy’s bodycam.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Christos Alexander Themelis Jr. fatally shot his 51-year-old father, Christos Byron Themelis, inside their home, and then gunned down his 48-year-old mother, Rebecca Ann Themelis, on the front lawn as officers arrived on the scene.

The tragic events unfolded shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, when police received a “frantic” 911 call from the shooter’s mother, who reported that her son had just shot her husband.

As deputies rushed to the address, more gunfire erupted, with the teen mercilessly blasting his mother in the back of the head as she was instructed to walk towards the officers.

In the ensuing crossfire, Deputy Shane McGough, a two-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was shot in the leg. His colleagues quickly administered first aid, including applying a tourniquet, before he was rushed to the hospital. McGough underwent surgery on Sunday morning to remove the bullet from his leg and is reported to be in stable condition.

The bodycam footage captured the tense and chaotic scene, with deputies yelling at the teen to stop reaching for his waistband just before he opened fire. Themelis was also shot during the exchange and, badly wounded, he crawled back into the house and barricaded himself inside.

The sheriff’s SWAT team later entered the home and found both Themelis and his father dead from gunshot wounds. Authorities believe the teen died from the injuries he sustained during the shootout.

In a statement, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister called the shooter a “monster” and questioned how he had access to firearms, given his past run-ins with law enforcement. Chronister praised the swift response of the deputies, saying they “mitigated the threat for this community.”
