As the altercation spilled out into the parking lot, Umesh, who was attending the event with other members of Nashville’s Nepali community, reportedly tried to intervene as a peacekeeper. However, he was allegedly punched, causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete.

While on the ground, Umesh was then kicked in the head by a suspect identified as 26-year-old Bishal Rai. Umesh succumbed to his severe head injuries on Tuesday morning.

Rai, who was arrested at his home in Antioch, was initially charged with aggravated assault, but the charges will now be upgraded to criminal homicide following Umesh’s death. Investigators are still searching for other concertgoers who may have been involved in the fatal assault.
