New York Park Ranger and trans advocate Robbi Mecus, 52, passed away in a tragic ice climbing accident on Mount Johnson in Denali National Park, Alaska. Mecus and her climbing partner fell approximately 1,000 feet while attempting to climb a steep route known as “the Escalator.”

Mecus, a 25-year veteran of the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, was a beloved member of the Keene Valley and local LGBTQ+ community. Her dedication to public service and advocacy for the transgender community has left a lasting impact on those who knew her.

As news of her passing spreads, friends, family, and colleagues mourn the loss of a passionate and trailblazing individual.
