
Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo welcomed their son, Alfredo, on New Years Eve at 11:45 p.m. Her sister, Aylin was born just as the clock struck midnight on New Years Day.
Aylin weighed 2.331kg. and was the first baby born at Natividad Medical Center and in Monterey County in 2022. His older brother, Alfredo, weighed 2,767kg.
“It’s crazy to me that they’re twins and have different birthdays,” Madrigal said in a press release from the California Medical Center.
“I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”
Dr Ana Abril Arias, family doctor at the center, called the birth of twins “one of the most memorable deliveries of my career”.
“It was an absolute pleasure helping these little ones to get here safely in 2021 and 2022,” she said. “What an amazing way to start the New Year! ”
There are approximately 120,000 births of twins in the United States each year, representing more than 3% of all births, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
However, twins with different birthdays are even rarer, with an estimated chance of one in 2 million.
Dawn Gilliam and Jason Tello welcomed twins Joslyn and Jaxson. Joslyn was born on December 31, 2019 at 11:37 p.m. Her brother was born 30 minutes later at 12:07 am on January 1, 2020.
At the time, Gilliam said she was “in shock”.
Meanwhile, the Madrigal twins will be welcomed home by their three older siblings, two daughters and a boy.
Madrigal said his eldest son was delighted that one of the babies was a boy. She says her family were eager to meet them.
