Northampton News: Homeless Man Accused of Sexual Assault on Woman

A woman was alleged­ly kid­napped and sex­u­al­ly assault­ed by a home­less man in broad day­light in Northamp­ton, UK. The hor­rif­ic attack took place in the Greyfri­ars area of the town on May 12.

The sus­pect, Leon Svans, 27, has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of kid­nap in rela­tion to the inci­dent. He appeared at Northamp­ton Mag­is­trates’ Court and was remand­ed in cus­tody until his next hear­ing at Northamp­ton Crown Court on June 27.

The vic­tim man­aged to escape from her attack­er and ran to a near­by shop in Abing­ton Street, where she received help from the staff. The police were called and arrived at the scene short­ly after.

The case has shocked the local com­mu­ni­ty and raised con­cerns about the safe­ty of women in the area. The police have urged any­one with infor­ma­tion or wit­ness­es to come for­ward and help with their investigation.
