Russia Intercepts Massive Ukrainian Drone Assault
RussÂian air defensÂes interÂceptÂed and destroyed 158 UkrainÂian drones overnight, includÂing two over the city of Moscow and nine over the surÂroundÂing Moscow region, the defense minÂistry said Sunday.
The strikes repÂreÂsentÂed one of the biggest UkrainÂian drone attacks since the start of the war.
Drones Intercepted Across Multiple Regions
Forty-six of the drones were over the Kursk region, where Ukraine has sent its forces in recent weeks in the largest incurÂsion onto RussÂian soil since World War II.
A furÂther 34 were shot down over the BryanÂsk region, 28 over the Voronezh region, and 14 over the BelÂgoÂrod region â all of which borÂder Ukraine. Drones were also takÂen down in the Tver region, northÂwest of Moscow, and the IvanoÂvo region, northÂeast of the RussÂian capital.
Moscow Hit by Drone Attack
Moscow MayÂor Sergei Sobyanin said that falling debris from one of the two drones shot down over the city caused a fire at an oil refinery.
UkrainÂian drone strikes have increasÂingÂly brought the fight far from the front lines into the heart of RusÂsia, tarÂgetÂing refinerÂies and oil terÂmiÂnals to slow down the KremÂlinâs assault.
Russia Claims Advances in Donetsk
MeanÂwhile, RusÂsiÂaâs MinÂistry of Defense said SunÂday it had takÂen conÂtrol of the towns of Pivnichne and VyimÂka, in Ukraineâs DonetÂsk region. RussÂian forces have been driÂving deepÂer into the partÂly occuÂpied eastÂern region, as the full capÂture of DonetÂsk remains a priÂmaÂry objecÂtive for the Kremlin.
Ongoing Fighting and Casualties
In Ukraine overnight, eight drones were shot down out of 11 launched by RusÂsia, accordÂing to the UkrainÂian air force. One perÂson was killed and four woundÂed in shelling in the Sumy region, while five peoÂple were woundÂed in shelling in the Kharkiv region.
