In a deeply troubling case, an 11-year-old boy in Pennsylvania has been charged with repeatedly sexually assaulting a 7‑year-old boy and 3‑year-old girl over the course of nearly three years.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the investigation began after they received an “allegation of sexual abuse” against the young suspect, who lives in the rural Otter Creek Township. The child is accused of sexually assaulting the two younger victims “on multiple occasions” between April 2021 and December 2023.

The victims, who reside over 70 miles away in Akron, Ohio, are believed to have endured 32 months of abuse at the hands of the 11-year-old perpetrator. Charges have been filed against the child through the Mercer County Juvenile Probation system.

While child-on-child sexual abuse is unfortunately more common than many realize, with research suggesting over half of such offenses are committed by minors, the motivations and responses can differ from adult offenders.

A 2020 study found that child perpetrators often have distinct drivers for their actions and tend to respond better to specialized treatment.
