A suspected drunk driver, Daniel Christopher Hyden (44), has been arrested in connection with a deadly crash on the Lower East Side during Fourth of July celebrations.

Hyden allegedly drove a truck through an intersection, mounting the sidewalk and striking pedestrians, including children, in Corlears Hook Park.

The crash tragically resulted in three fatalities, with authorities expected to file additional charges against Hyden.

This incident has taken a shocking turn as it’s revealed Hyden is a licensed substance abuse counselor and author of a self-help book titled “The Sober Addict: A Practical Guide to Living with Addiction.”

Published in 2020, the book positions Hyden as an “ex-professional addict” with extensive personal experience.

Hyden’s alleged actions raise critical questions about the role of addiction counselors in preventing such tragedies and the challenges they face in maintaining their own recovery.
