The Reported Incident
Police say there is no threat to former President Donald Trump’s rally site on Long Island after ‘explosives’ were reportedly found in a car near the site.
A spokesperson for the Nassau County Police Department confirmed to DailyMail that “there was a suspicious occurrence” on Wednesday ahead of Trump’s speech, but there is “no validity” to the report that there was an “explosive device found.”
Blame Placed on Suspect
“Reports of explosives being found at the site are unfounded,” said Nassau County Commissioner of Police Patrick Ryder.
He went on to blame a suspect with a “self-trained bomb-detecting dog” for sounding the alarm about explosives near the rally site.
The Commissioner’s Explanation
“There is a person who is being questioned who may have been training a bomb detection dog near the site,” said Commissioner Ryder.
“The individual with the bomb dog falsely reported explosives being found and that individual is currently being detained by police.”
Continued High Alert
Police working in conjunction with Secret Service remain on high alert in the area hours before the former president is set to take the stage. Thousands of MAGA fans are expected to descend upon Long Island for the rally at the Nassau Coliseum.
Addressing the False Alarm
The Nassau County Police Department told DailyMail.com they are “working on an email” to send out in response to the alleged security incident. A Secret Service spokesperson also said that reports of ‘explosives’ found in a car are false.
