California Teenager Arrested for Attempted Carjacking During Illegal Street Takeover

A shocking incident in Highland, California, has resulted in the arrest of a 15-year-old teenager. The teen allegedly attempted to carjack a sheriff’s deputy during a chaotic street takeover on May 11th.

Large Crowd Takes Over Intersection

Approximately 100 people swarmed the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Highland Avenue, shutting it down illegally. Video footage captured the unruly crowd vandalizing the deputy’s patrol car, kicking, punching, and even jumping on top of it, shattering the windshield.

Attempt to Carjack Deputy

In a brazen move, the 15-year-old suspect opened the driver’s side door of the patrol car in an apparent attempt to carjack the deputy. Fortunately, the deputy reacted swiftly, closing the door and driving away from the scene to avoid further violence.

Authorities Warn of Street Takeover Dangers

“Witnessing the video, I couldn’t help but imagine myself in the deputy’s shoes,” said San Bernardino Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Gloria Huerta. “The deputy’s decision to disengage from the violent mob likely prevented a potentially deadly encounter.”

The teenager was apprehended at his residence on May 23rd and faces charges of attempted carjacking and felony vandalism. He is currently detained at the San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall.

Huerta emphasized the dangers of street takeovers, stating, “Participation in these events, whether as a spectator or driver, holds significant risks. You could face arrest, injure someone, or even get hurt yourself. It’s simply not worth it.”
