A 17-year-old cheer­leader from Cal­i­for­nia, Emi­ly Gold, has died in an appar­ent sui­cide. Gold’s body was found under an over­pass in Ran­cho Cuca­mon­ga, hav­ing report­ed­ly been struck by mul­ti­ple vehicles.

Gold and her cheer­lead­ing team from Los Osos High School had recent­ly impressed the judges on the real­i­ty com­pe­ti­tion show “Amer­i­ca’s Got Tal­ent,” earn­ing a rare stand­ing ova­tion from Simon Cow­ell. Their per­for­mance aired in May.

Outpouring of Grief

Gold’s broth­er, Alex, shared a heart­break­ing trib­ute on Insta­gram, writ­ing: “Half my heart is gone with­out you…Rest in heav­en Emi­ly Gold because it will always be your world.” The com­mu­ni­ty has ral­lied to sup­port the Gold fam­i­ly, with a GoFundMe page rais­ing over $26,000 in just a few days.
