A distraught mother is mourning the tragic death of her 31-year-old daughter, Yazmeen Williams, whose body was found fatally shot and wrapped in a sleeping bag on a New York City sidewalk.

The heartbreaking incident has left the community shaken and the family desperate for justice.

According to the New York Post, Yazmeen’s body was discovered around 5 pm on Friday, July 5th, 2024, outside 207 E. 27th St. in the Kips Bay neighborhood.

The young woman’s body was stuffed inside a sleeping bag and left among several black trash bags placed on the sidewalk for garbage collection.

Yazmeen’s mother, Nicole Williams, spoke to the Post, recounting the devastating moment when police informed her of her daughter’s death. “And I said, ‘OK, and she’s going to be all right?’

And they said no, that she died,” the grief-stricken mom said as she collapsed in tears. “They said she’s dead. I fainted and the officer had to pick me up off the floor.”

Authorities have confirmed that Yazmeen was shot in the head, and her death has been ruled a homicide. However, no arrests have been made, and police are still investigating the case, searching for any leads or potential suspects.

Yazmeen, who studied criminal justice at Buffalo State University, had recently started working with the city’s homeless population in a role with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Her mother described her as a kind and caring individual, saying, “She didn’t deserve what happened to her!”
