Two Police Officers Shot During NYPD Investigation at New Jersey Hotel: Sources

Two police offi­cers, one from the NYPD, were shot dur­ing an inves­ti­ga­tion at the Rar­i­tan Hotel in New Jer­sey ear­ly Thurs­day morn­ing, accord­ing to law enforce­ment sources.

The offi­cers were respond­ing to a fatal shoot­ing inci­dent in East Harlem when the sit­u­a­tion escalated.

The sources said that NYPD detec­tives had tracked a man want­ed for the East Harlem fatal shoot­ing to the Rar­i­tan Hotel on King Georges Post Road. 

When the sus­pec­t’s girl­friend appeared and caused a scene, she was placed in hand­cuffs. The want­ed gun­man then came out of the hotel and opened fire, strik­ing an NYPD offi­cer in the foot and a local Jer­sey cop in the back.

The Mid­dle­sex Coun­ty Pros­e­cu­tor’s Office stat­ed that the inves­ti­ga­tion is being han­dled by the state Attor­ney Gen­er­al’s office. No fur­ther details were imme­di­ate­ly provided.
