A Utah woman named Ida Lorenzo has turned to crowdfunding after losing her job at the state Attorney General’s office due to a scandal involving her pulling down a teenage girl’s skirt in a restaurant.

Lorenzo was charged with a Class A misdemeanor in April 2024 for the incident, which was caught on video and went viral online. The video showed Lorenzo approaching the teenage girl in the lobby of a Japanese Steakhouse in St. George, Utah, and tugging on her skirt, claiming the girl was exposing herself in front of children.

The teenager’s friends can be heard in the video telling Lorenzo, “You do not get to touch her.” Lorenzo also appeared to flash a badge and threaten to call child protective services.

Following the incident, Lorenzo was terminated from her legal secretary position at the Washington County office of the state Attorney General on the same day she was charged. In a letter, the office cited her “noncompliance with policies and standards related to performance” as the reason for the dismissal.

Now, Lorenzo has turned to GoFundMe in a bid to generate some income while she searches for a new job. She has described herself as a “single mother” and a “survivor of domestic violence,” and has claimed that her son is a “suicide survivor” who was bullied in middle school.

Lorenzo has set a fundraising goal of $5,000 on the platform, but so far has only managed to raise less than $500. In her appeal, she has pleaded for sympathy and stated that she has “never asked for any help until now” and that this is the “first time” in her life that she could use the assistance.

The incident and Lorenzo’s subsequent termination have sparked significant attention and controversy, with many debating the appropriateness of her actions and the consequences she has faced.
