Dozens of pilot whales are in a desperate fight for survival after beaching themselves in Western Australia!

The pod, estimated around 100 strong, got stuck in shallow waters near Dunsborough, south of Perth. Thankfully, rescuers are on the scene, but some whales have already died.

Here’s what you NEED to know:

  • Local heroes are keeping the whales cool with water, but experts are urging people to STAY BACK and let them do their job. Messing with the whales can actually hurt them more!
  • This isn’t the first time this has happened in WA. These super social whales travel in tight groups, making them more likely to get stranded together.
  • Scientists are still clueless why whales beach themselves. It’s a total mystery!
