A recent high school graduate and promising Division 1 cross country runner, Ethan Lawrence, tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning in Davie, Florida. The 19-year-old was found unresponsive at Vista View Park on Sunday, July 0th, during a severe storm.

The park had been closed due to dangerous weather conditions, but Lawrence apparently entered the grounds while the storm raged. Emergency services responded to a 911 call and pronounced Lawrence dead at the scene.

Ethan’s heartbroken father, Patrick Lawrence, shared the news on Facebook. “My heart is shattered,” he wrote. “Ethan was out doing what he loved to run, and a lightning strike took him from us at Vista View Park. Please keep our family in your prayers. We’ll forever cherish his amazing 19 years and the incredible young man he was.”

Tributes poured in for the talented young athlete. Sarah Ramsey Perry, a friend of the family, described Ethan as “a beautiful, intelligent, athletic, and simply wonderful young man” who tragically passed away while pursuing his passion. She offered her deepest condolences to Ethan’s mother, Lourdes, during this unimaginable time of grief.
