Sergio Aguero has passed a “satisfactory medical check” and has decided to play football for the first time in 15 months.
Aguero was sent off in the 42nd minute in his first start for Barcelona last season against Alaves and was taken to hospital with difficulty breathing.
Near the end of the first half, the former Manchester City man struggled and was on the ground after colliding with an opponent in the box.
Aguero got up and was assisted off the pitch but was unable to return to training due to ongoing treatment and checks and was diagnosed with a career-ending heart condition.
Agüero, 33 years old and having played just 165 minutes for Barça, ended his professional career because of an arrhythmia found during a medical.
A year and three months after that match, Aguero returned to the pitch at Ecuadorian club Barcelona Sporting Club.
The Ecuadorian club has a name and coat of arms inspired by Blaugrana, as Spanish immigrant Eutimio Pérez founded the club after his hometown of Barcelona.
“I’m really looking forward to going there and having fun,” explained Aguero, who will play in the team’s friendly match “Yellow Knight” this month.
“I had a check-up at a psychiatrist, I’m feeling great, and I’ve already started training, so I think I’ll be able to compete in Yellow Nights.”
I want to ‘have fun’ and ‘feel the pitch again’.In 15 days I have a game with my friends in Barcelona, Spain, so I will be able to play.”
Aguero added that spending time with South American fans during the World Cup helped convince him to play as a guest at a club that had never been relegated from the country’s top league.
