Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was booed by his own fans before the match against Nantes on Sunday night.

The 35-year-old Dane left Leicester this summer for France after more than a decade at King Power Stadium.

But the first few months after his arrival were a nightmare.

And when his name was read out before the home game against Nantes, the goalkeeper was booed by his own supporters.

Fans then applauded substitute goalkeeper Marcin Burka.

Nice defended one point with a penalty kick from Nicola Pepe, who is on loan from Arsenal, to draw (1–1).

Schmeichel has played in 10 of Nice’s 12 Ligue 1 games this season.

However, a report by L’Equipe earlier this month suggested that Schmeichel was already considering leaving in the January window.

At the club, he has been described as showing “a lack of professionalism”, with his warm-up being too short and his isolation from the rest of the team during training.

There are also concerns about adapting to Nice’s style of play.

At Leicester he was used to playing behind a deeper defensive structure.

But Nice manager Lucien Favre wants to play at a higher line and it is questionable whether Schmeichel can cover that gap.

The Danish goalkeeper has had an epic 11 years at Leicester.

He made 479 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Championship.

He also has 86 caps for the Danish national team, reached the semi-finals of last year’s European Championship and won Denmark’s Player of the Year award four times.
