FOOTBALL: Manchester City star Kyle Walker undergoes groin surgery, leaving England defender hopeless for 2022 World Cup

Kyle Walk­er under­went surgery for his injury, which puts his par­tic­i­pa­tion in the World Cup in seri­ous jeopardy.

It will undoubt­ed­ly be a blow to Gareth South­gate’s Qatar plans.

Man­ches­ter City con­firmed the news through a club statement.

Kyle Walk­er will under­go surgery after sus­tain­ing an injury to his left groin dur­ing the first half of Sun­day’s 6–3 draw against Man­ches­ter United.”

“The surgery was suc­cess­ful and we will give you a more detailed prog­no­sis later.

Walk­er then released a pho­to tak­en at the hos­pi­tal after his surgery.

And he wrote that he “must under­stand, as a play­er, that injuries are part of the game he loves.”

Before the surgery, Pep Guardi­o­la admit­ted he was­n’t sure Walk­er would be ready for the tour­na­ment in six weeks.

“Some­thing in his stom­ach is going to make him rest for a while,” he told reporters.

“I don’t know (how much)”. I can’t say more. I need to con­sult a doc­tor. Hope­ful­ly he can come back like Calvin [Phillips].

“I know how impor­tant the World Cup is for play­ers, but hon­est­ly I don’t know right now.”

Walk­er was side­lined dur­ing the 5–0 win over Copen­hagen in the Cham­pi­ons League, with Joao Can­ce­lo at right-back.

Walk­er is one of South­gate’s key play­ers, often start­ing right-back in four-backs and right-back in three-backs.

The for­mer Tot­ten­ham and Sheffield Unit­ed star has 70 caps for the Three Lions and has been a key play­er in each of the last three major inter­na­tion­al competitions.

In Eng­land, Reece James, who is cur­rent­ly sec­ond-choice behind Walk­er, is like­ly to start in this position.

Trent Alexan­der-Arnold sits under Kier­an Trip­pi­er and South­gate is eye­ing Eng­land’s RB spot, but Walk­er will be out of the squad if he does­n’t win the race against time. you will be able to avoid the situation.
