FOOTBALL: Newcastle want Memphis Depay in an ambitious transfer in January

New­cas­tle are report­ed­ly plan­ning to sign Barcelona star Mem­phis Depay in January.

McGee tried to sign the strik­er in the sum­mer, but he decid­ed to stay at Nou Camp.

Barça have announced they will sell Depay, with mul­ti­ple clubs show­ing inter­est, includ­ing Man­ches­ter Unit­ed, Tot­ten­ham and Juventus.

So New­cas­tle may have to cut off inter­est from the trio in order to sign the Dutch­man in January.

Accord­ing to Mundo­de­porti­vo, Thun con­tin­ues to be inter­est­ed, so that’s prob­a­bly what they’re try­ing to do.

Unit­ed made a €10m bid for Depay this sum­mer, but was reject­ed by Barcelona.

The Span­ish giant wants €19m and is believed to have reject­ed a €16m bid from Spurs.

How­ev­er, Depay has played just three games this sea­son and is not part of Xav­i’s plans, mean­ing Barça could drop his valuation.

This could lead New­cas­tle to make a bid, with the board said to be plan­ning an ambi­tious window.

Thun, who has already spent €240 mil­lion since tak­ing over as Sau­di Ara­bi­a’s man­ag­er, is said to be tar­get­ing six new sign­ings when the win­dow reopens.

The club are set to make a third bid for Leices­ter star James Mad­di­son and Leeds winger Jack Harrison.

Howe appears to be inter­est­ed in a wide play­er, with Wat­ford’s Joao Pedro and Shakhtar Donet­sk star Mihai­lo Mudrik also being considered.

Sum­mer tar­get Mous­sa Dia­by has also been linked with Newcastle.
