Karim Benzema has vowed to end his Real Madrid career after winning the 2022 Ballon d’Or.
He scored 44 goals last season and was credited with helping Real win LaLiga and the Champions League.
The 34-year-old is the oldest winner in 66 years and doesn’t seem to be taking off his boots anytime soon.
The striker is happy at Real Madrid and says he is improving year by year and that when the time comes he will decide to retire rather than move to another club.
Benzema said: “I will retire at Real Madrid. I have no other choice.
“I have a contract with Real Madrid. So far it feels good, but after this? I don’t know because I think about it year after year.
“If I feel good I will keep playing football, if I feel bad I will know then. But now I have two years left on my contract with Real Madrid”.
Often ignored and criticized, Benzema has scored 328 goals for the Whites since signing for around €40m in 2009.
Until last season, he was an underrated figure in a team that won three LaLiga titles and four Champions League titles.
He was often followed by Cristiano Ronaldo, who was acquired from Manchester United in the same year.
After winning the award, Benzema proudly said that he had fulfilled his childhood dream.
“This award in front of me makes me very proud.
“I never gave up on my childhood dream. Anything is possible.
“I’m very proud of how I’ve come this far. It’s not been easy and it’s been a tough time for my family.”
