Swimmer Retired After Failing to Advance at Paris Games

Alonso had previously announced her retirement from swimming after failing to advance out of the heats in the women’s 100m butterfly event at the Paris Olympics.

However, she had continued to stay in the Olympic Village despite her retirement.

Paraguayan Olympic Committee Cites “Inappropriate Behavior”

Larissa Schaerer, the head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, stated that Alonso’s “presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay.” The committee thanked Alonso for leaving the Village of her own accord.

Paraguayan media outlets reported that Alonso had spent time at Disneyland instead of supporting her teammates, which upset the country’s Olympic leadership.

Alonso, who had a strong 2023 season and set career bests in the 100m and 200m butterfly events, has yet to address her dismissal from the Olympic Village.
