Real Madrid have been dealt a crushing injury blow with news that star midfielder Luka Modric is set to miss their next three crucial fixtures, Scandalsmag can exclusively reveal.
Sources close to Los Blancos have told us that Modric suffered a muscle problem in training this week and medical staff have all but ruled him out of the upcoming Copa del Rey final and Champions League semi-finals. The influential Croatian international was reportedly in agony after picking up the thigh injury and has failed to recover despite intensive rehabilitation efforts over recent days.
In a devastating turn of events for Real boss Carlo Ancelotti, Modric is now unlikely to feature against Osasuna in the Copa del Rey showpiece this weekend or in the Champions League last four first leg clash with Manchester City next week. However, there is hope the midfield maestro could return for the Etihad return on 17 May if he responds well to further treatment.
Ancelotti has an array of midfield options to call upon to fill the sizeable void left by Modric, including Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelian Tchouameni and Dani Ceballos. Ceballos is viewed as the most like-for-like replacement, while Valverde, Kroos and Camavinga have operated on the left of a midfield three in big matches this season.
The injury news will come as a frustrating setback for Madrid as they chase a historic treble this campaign. However, Ancelotti’s squad depth means they should have enough quality to cope without their influential number 10 over the coming games. Modric will no doubt be targeting a return in time for the Champions League final in Paris later this month should Real navigate their way past City.
