Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of rock and roll legend Elvis, has died at the age of 54, her mother has announced.
“It is with heavy hearts that I have to share the tragic news that my beautiful daughter, Lisa Marie, has left us,” she said.
Singer Lisa Marie was taken to hospital early Thursday morning. US media reports said she had a cardiac arrest.
She was found unconscious at her home in Calabasas, Calif., a source told TMZ.
“She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I have ever known,” said Priscilla Presley in her statement.
“As we deal with this profound loss, we ask that you respect our privacy.”
Her mother did not elaborate on the possible cause of her death.
Citing a source close to Lisa Marie Presley, TMZ reports that the star was found unresponsive in her bedroom Thursday morning. At about the same time, her ex-husband, Danny Kyo, who lives on the same property, arrived and started CPR.
According to the news, she went into “complete stoppage” and her passer-by administered epinephrine (commonly known as adrenaline) to restore her pulse.
Paramedics soon arrived and Presley was taken to hospital.
Immediately after hearing the news of her death, condolences poured in from all over the United States.
Grammy Award winner Diane Warren expressed her sadness at the “terrifying news.” The singer added, “The whole world is sending love and prayers to Priscilla and Lisa Marie’s children right now.”
Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson said, “It’s hard to accept the passing of someone so young and full of life.”
Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin wrote on Twitter, “I had the chance to meet Shira Presley when she was on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ but as a mother, it’s too early for Lisa Marie. I can’t imagine the pain you would be going through in death,” he wrote.
She was born in 1968. Following in her father’s footsteps, she pursues her musical career. Her star has released three albums and her 2003 debut studio album sold hundreds of thousands and was generally well received by her.
The star is also known for having been married to pop legend Michael Jackson, actor Nicolas Cage, musician Danny Kyo and Michael Lockwood.
She has four children, including actress Riley Keough. Presley’s son Benjamin Kyo committed suicide in 2020.
Presley’s last public appearance was at the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night.
The couple were seen breaking down in tears with her mother as she watched Austin Butler, who played her father, win Best Actor.
