A father was acciÂdenÂtalÂly shot dead inside his home by his todÂdler, who found a loaded gun, picked it up and pulled the trigÂger, police said.
Dustin WalÂters, 25, was rushed to hosÂpiÂtal on DecemÂber 5 after offiÂcers found him sufÂferÂing from a gunÂshot wound when respondÂing to reports of a shootÂing at his home in the 100 block of E. 64th Street, SavanÂnah at 5:30 p.m.
He was rushed to MemoÂrÂiÂal MedÂical CenÂter, where he died of his injuries, the SavanÂnah Police DepartÂment said.
Police said he was âacciÂdenÂtalÂlyâ shot dead by a child under the age of two.
They havenât conÂfirmed WalÂtersâ relaÂtionÂship with the child, but WalÂters has a one-year-old son, Mars Cameron WalÂters, with his wife, Tori.
âThe preÂlimÂiÂnary invesÂtiÂgaÂtion deterÂmined that WalÂters was injured when a todÂdler, just under 2 years old, found and fired the handÂgun, hitÂting WalÂters,â police said.
Details of the invesÂtiÂgaÂtion into the inciÂdent were not made pubÂlic until DecemÂber 14, when invesÂtiÂgaÂtors said a child was involved in the shooting.

InvesÂtiÂgaÂtors did not disÂclose the type of weapon used but conÂfirmed that famÂiÂly memÂbers of the vicÂtim were present in the house when the shot was fired.
They added that the inciÂdent was âacciÂdenÂtalâ. It is not clear if any relÂaÂtives face crimÂiÂnal charges for the shooting.
A WalÂters obitÂuÂary described him as a famÂiÂly man who lived in SavanÂnah and worked for NelÂson ComÂpaÂny, a real estate develÂopÂment company.
The vicÂtim was buried on DecemÂber 10 in RinÂcon, GeorÂgia, his homeÂtown. He is surÂvived by his wife Tori and todÂdler son, Mars Cameron Walters.
The SavanÂnah Police DepartÂment did not disÂclose whether the todÂdler and WalÂters were relatÂed
âWe are mournÂing with the WalÂters famÂiÂly,â SavanÂnah Police Chief Roy Minter said in a statement.
âAs a parÂent, I canât imagÂine what this famÂiÂly is going through or will conÂtinÂue to go through in the years to come. What we want to make sure now is that parÂents are aware that, although rare, these inciÂdents can hapÂpen with tragÂic results.
