ChrisÂtÂian Atsu, who played for NewÂcasÂtle and Chelsea in the PreÂmier League, was found dead in Turkey folÂlowÂing the recent earthquake.
The tragÂic news was announced by Atsuâs agent, Nana Sechere, on TwitÂter, revealÂing that MFâs body was found 12 days after the earthÂquake struck.
In it they said, âIt is with great regret that we must inform you, dear ones, that the body of ChrisÂtÂian Atsu was found this morning.
âOur deepÂest conÂdoÂlences to his famÂiÂly and loved ones. We would like to take this opporÂtuÂniÂty to thank everyÂone for their prayers and support.
âAs we make the necÂesÂsary prepaÂraÂtions, we ask everyÂone to respect the famÂiÂlyâs priÂvaÂcy durÂing this very difÂfiÂcult time.â
Atu, a 31-year-old GhanaÂian playÂer, used to play for Hatayspol in the TurkÂish Super League.
He made 121 appearÂances for NewÂcasÂtle and was part of a side that secured proÂmoÂtion to the PreÂmier League in 2017, but left the club four years later.
âWe are deeply sadÂdened to learn that ChrisÂtÂian Atu has tragÂiÂcalÂly lost his life in a devÂasÂtatÂing earthÂquake in Turkey,â NewÂcasÂtle said in a mesÂsage postÂed on Twitter.
âA talÂentÂed playÂer and a speÂcial perÂson, he will always be fondÂly rememÂbered by the playÂers, staff and fans. Rest in peace Christian.
There was also a time when Atsu was on loan to anothÂer club while signÂing with Chelsea.
âEveryÂone at Chelsea FootÂball Club is devÂasÂtatÂed to hear of the tragÂic passÂing of forÂmer playÂer ChrisÂtÂian Atsu. Our thoughts are with his famÂiÂly and friends,â Chelsea said in a statement.
ForÂmer Chelsea capÂtain John TerÂry tweetÂed a phoÂto of Atsu with the mesÂsage, âRIP my friend.â
Atu made 13 appearÂances for EverÂton after spendÂing a seaÂson on loan at the MerseyÂside club in 2014â15.
