The family of American actress Anne Heche has announced that she will not be saved after a car accident earlier this week set her car on fire.
The actress said her coma continued and she had “severe anaerobic brain damage” when her brain ran out of oxygen.
“We thank everyone who prayed for her Ann’s recovery and thank her dedicated staff and wonderful nurses,” she added.
Last week, her car crashed into a two-story house in Los Angeles.
Police said Friday that preliminary blood tests had detected the drug in her body, but additional tests were needed to rule out the substance given to her at the hospital.
The Los Angeles Police Department told PA that the incident was being investigated as a DUI traffic collision offence.
The 53-year-old mum of two has appeared in films such as Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids and the 1998 remake of Psycho.
Heche also appeared in “Dancing with the Stars,” the US equivalent of “Strictly Com Dancing.”
She is also the former partner of American host Ellen DeGeneres.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, Heche’s car slammed into a two-story home 30 feet (9.1 meters) before it started a “massive fire,” rendering the home “uninhabitable.”
The actress is being treated at West Hills Hospital’s Grossman Burn Center, where she is on life support to determine if an organ donation is possible, her family said in a statement.
