ChrisÂtÂian Pulisic will be ready in time for SatÂurÂdayâs game against the NetherÂlands after sufÂferÂing an injury in TuesÂdayâs Group B game against Iran, he assured his USA teammates.
Pulisic had a tough run with IranÂian goalÂkeepÂer Alireza BeiranÂbanÂdo just before halfÂtime before headÂing in Sergino Destâs cross to make it 1â0 and helpÂing the USA qualÂiÂfy for the KnockÂout Round.
âDonât worÂry weâll be ready on SatÂurÂday,â the Chelsea winger said in a post-match social media post, while team-mate WestÂon McKenÂnie said: âI sent him a mesÂsage to see how he was doing and he said âIâll be ready on SatÂurÂday. Itâs best to be there.â
Pulisic lay in goalÂmouth for sevÂerÂal minÂutes after the colÂliÂsion, but left the field, was treatÂed by his teamâs trainÂer and re-entered to finÂish the first half.
BrenÂden AaronÂsÂson replaced Pulisic at half-time, and US SocÂcer announced after the game that he had been takÂen to hosÂpiÂtal, diagÂnosed with a pelvic conÂtuÂsion, and described as âall day long.â
âObviÂousÂly Iâm very grateÂful he threw himÂself out there,â McKenÂnie said after the game. âIt was heartÂbreakÂing at the end, but Iâm glad I made it and Iâm still here.â
After the game, USA coach Greg VerÂhalÂter praised Pulisic for his hard work and toughÂness and had a short video call with the playÂers from the lockÂer room.
âI was able to talk to him and heâs fine,â VerÂhalÂter said at a press conÂferÂence. âThatâs what he has, when a goal is scored, heâs going to be aggressive.
âHe gets in the box and puts defendÂers in a lot of trouÂble with his change of pace. Itâs great when one of the best playÂers is the hardÂest worker.
âAnd he isâ. I canât say enough about Christianity. â
USA capÂtain Tyler Adams said he is prayÂing for his teamÂmates, adding that he expects goals like this from Pulisic.
âHow many times in his career have he scored a goal like that? From behind, itâs specÂtacÂuÂlar,â Adams said. âThe way he timed himÂself in the box, the way he got to the ball, he could do anyÂthing for this team to win.
âHeâs obviÂousÂly an imporÂtant playÂer for us. Iâll be prayÂing for him and wishÂing him all the best. Heâll do well there. I think heâll do whatÂevÂer it takes to be in the next game. .â
Josh SarÂgent was replaced by Haji Wright in the 75th minute after sufÂferÂing a strained back on his right leg while dodgÂing a tackÂle. Like Pulisic, he underÂwent treatÂment on the field, but was able to walk on his own.
The USA used up nine minÂutes of secÂond-half stopÂpage time to clinch their first World Cup vicÂtoÂry since 2014 and seal a round-of-16 match against the NetherÂlands on Saturday.
